My Weekend Home

I went home this weekend and I was in dire need of some family time. Ever since I moved up to Mississippi College I’ve been home sick. I’ve been home three times since I moved up here, so I cherish every moment that I am home. On Friday my brother took me out to dinner and we went to Chef Scott’s. Chef Scott’s is the best sushi place, ever. After we ate we went back home and played guitar hero and watched Kung Fu Panda. My brother my best friend, so the more time I spend with him, the better.

Saturday was a long day. I had to find a dress for formal. Went to 4 different dress shops and I tried on tons and tons of dresses. I decided on this gorgeous Tiffany’s gown. It is absolutely stunning. I had to get in altered because it was a little too long. Saturday night I spent quality time with my parents. We watched the Alabama MSU game and then we watched This Christmas. My mom cooked my favorite food, chicken and dumplings. It was good to have home cooked food and sweet tea :).

Sunday we woke up and went to church and then Dylan came over after and we had lunch and my Aunt Donna came over as well. We talked about what to get everyone for Christmas. Sunday wasn’t very eventful. I did wake up with a swollen throat, ugh. I’m driving back to MC today and I’m not looking forward to the three hour drive. I’m also not looking forward to school this week. Luckily, Thanksgiving break is the following week. Well, that’s all I got for today. I hope y’all have a wonderful week!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://acrum.blogspot.com/2008/11/4-my-weekend-home.html' title='4. Christian Higher Education

What does Christian higher education mean? This question has been haunting me the past few weeks. We have these debates in class on how a Christian education is supposed to be based on God’s teachings and building relationships and growing not only in our education, but also in our faith. But what is Christian higher education, really? I don’t think anyone truly knows. It’s based off of opinions that can be somewhat justified by good points. Dr. Randle keeps pushing us into finding the true meaning, but the concept seems too hard for me to grasp.

The question comes down to, “when you graduate from Mississippi College, what else will you gain other than a college degree that you could have gotten at a public state school.” Hearing that question from Dr. Randle really made me think about what that something could possibly be. If the basis of a Christian University is not based on the word of God and His teachings, then can we really consider us a “Christian University?” No, we can’t. Gosh, it is so frustrating trying to figure out what that little thing could be. It could be anything in the world.

I have some good thoughts on what I think Christian higher education is, but they’re influenced by what Holmes has written and out MC mission statement. However, I’m trying to go into more depth on what I think it means. I believe that Christian higher education is made up of the people. God sees the church as the people, not the building. The people of the church are THE church. It is the same thing with a Christian University; the students and educators are the university. Well, that’s all my mind can gather for today, it’s been a long weekend. :) have a great week!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://acrum.blogspot.com/2008/09/3.html' title='3. Life

Ok, I don’t know if anyone feel this way, but it’s something I’ve been dealing with since I came to school. The face that I’m not relying fully and completely on my parents and have to keep myself disciplined when it comes to school is becoming a little over whelming. I live such a sheltered life and it’s so weird being “independent.” Balancing my studies, my quiet times, and all the other little fun things in my life is way too time consuming. Where do I draw the line? I want to have fun, but I need to study. It’s a little nerve racking. The hardest thing is trying to fit sleep into my schedule. I’m the typical sleep deprived college student living off of ravioli and caf food. Mmmm, good. :\

I’m going through the rush process for the next two weeks. I’m soo excited, but not so pumped that I can’t go home for the next few weeks. I’m such a home-body and I miss my family like crazy. I’m undecided about which tribe I want to be a part of. They all seem so amazing. I have faith that God will put me in the tribe HE wants me in. We did a service project this past Saturday and it was such an eye opener. Sure, all we did was clean, but we cleaned so that they could have church in a run-down part of town. It reminded me of the song “God of This City.” There so much to do and it’s a work in progress.

I didn’t think I would like this whole blogging thing, but I actually enjoy it. It’s a good way for me to express what I’m dealing with and get some feedback on it. I’m certain I’m not the only one going through all of these little controversies. Since I’ve come to MC, I’ve been exposed to so much. I love the atmosphere here and I love how everyone, for the most part, has a happy go lucky attitude. All in all, I’m having the time of my life, and I couldn’t be more stoked about it. Well, I guess this is it for today. :) B+ (smile and be positive)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://acrum.blogspot.com/2008/09/life.html' title='2. Birmingham

I'm not too sure what i should write about, so I'll just tell you about my weekend. I woke up sick on Friday, so i didn't go to my two classes. However, I did manage to get better just in time to go back home with my roommate. She is from Birmingham, so that’s where our journey began. I’m such a southern girl, so being in the city will be a drastic change for me. When we got to Birmingham, our first stop was Hoover. I was so addicted to the T.V. show, Two-A-Days. The school was massive. I was like a little kid at Disney World. I was very much impressed. Birmingham is so busy, not like my little quaint town. We finally arrived at Emily Grace’s house. The first thing we did was bite into some home cooked food. It was so refreshing. We were definitely spoiled.

Saturday we slept in, which was so nice. Emily is going to take me to all the little shops that I have never heard of. We went to a place called “Plato’s closet.” I have found a new love. They sell designer clothes way cheaper than the actual store. I had never heard of it, but it was quite a discovery. After Plato’s we went to a burger place called Milo’s; another place I had never heard of. Hands down, best sweet tea ever. They have this special sauce they put on their burgers, incredible. That night we rented “Sahara” and watched it with Emily’s little brothers. It was a really good movie.

This morning we woke up bright and early and went to church. Her church is so much bigger than mine, but everything in Birmingham is much bigger than my little town, the sermon was awesome the title was “The Ten Commandments, Gods Grace.” We rushed back to Emily’s house to finish up packing and then we were off to the University Of Alabama to see some of Emily’s friends from home. We rushed everywhere to find a place with wireless internet so I could write this blog. I hope you enjoyed it :) Have a great day! Life is good, God is better!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://acrum.blogspot.com/2008/09/birmingham.html' title='1.
